Zafar Bangash:

Israel’s Invincibility Myth Collapsed in 12-Day War; Any Attack on Iran’s Leader Will Ignite the Region

In an interview with Taghrib News Agency, Bangash described the joint U.S.-Israeli assault on Iran as a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law. He stated that the aggression continues through daily threats and sabotage, including the assassination of Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists, with innocent civilians—women and children—also among the victims.
Israel’s Invincibility Myth Collapsed in 12-Day War; Any Attack on Iran’s Leader Will Ignite the Region
Zafar Bangash, Director of the Institute of Contemporary Islamic Thought in Canada, described the joint military assault by the United States and the Zionist regime against the Islamic Republic of Iran as illegal and criminal. He warned that any attempt targeting Iran's Supreme Leader would ignite devastating consequences across the region.
He stated that the war, which began under the guise of U.S. willingness to negotiate Iran’s nuclear file, has continued through daily threats and sabotage. He said that Israeli forces assassinated Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists, and civilians—including women and children—were killed.
Bangash added that the attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities violated international law and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and left the United States discredited and untrustworthy.
He said the Zionist regime is illegitimate and led by a prime minister facing domestic corruption charges, who seeks to escalate conflict across West Asia. Threatening a country’s leader, he stated, violates international law—but the U.S. and Israel disregard all legal norms. Bangash warned that a strike against Iran’s Supreme Leader would result in attacks on American bases and the collapse of Israel, leading to the expulsion of U.S. forces from the region.
He emphasized the importance of robust security measures to protect the Iranian leader, adding that the Mossad has infiltrated Iran and uses advanced tracking technology. He called for the judiciary to identify and prosecute agents involved.
Bangash stated that Iran’s determined resistance earned respect across the region and globally, and that the myth of Israel’s invincibility collapsed. Despite its capabilities, Iran deliberately avoided striking non-military targets, and civilian casualties resulted from Israel placing strategic facilities near residential areas.
Regarding Syria, he said recent developments show that its current rulers act in service of imperialist and Zionist agendas. Armed groups such as al-Qaeda, operating under various names, were supported by the U.S., Israel, and certain regional states to weaken the resistance axis.
He said observers had long understood this reality, though it was concealed by widespread propaganda portraying the groups as “freedom fighters.” He added that events since last December have exposed their true nature.
Bangash concluded that while Israel occupies vast areas of Syrian territory, the Syrian government continues to target religious minorities. He said such policies will fail and only deepen the suffering of the Syrian people.
He is also the author of several books, including Reflections on Power and the Prophetic Seerah, and announced a forthcoming title, The Transformative Power of the Seerah, to be published in September 2025 in honor of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
