Yemeni Military Analyst: Yemen’s Operations Against Israel Have Shifted the Regional Balance of Power

Speaking to Taghrib News Agency(TNA), Shamsan stated that between the launch of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood and the ceasefire declared on January 18, 2025, Yemeni forces carried out 98 direct attacks within Israeli-occupied areas. He highlighted the strategic impact of the blockade imposed on the port of Umm al-Rashrash in the Red Sea: “Despite geographical and defensive challenges—including a distance of over 2,000 kilometers and Israel’s advanced early-warning and defense systems—Yemeni forces managed to shut down key infrastructure and precisely target strategic sites.”

Shamsan emphasized the broader implications of these operations, noting that they forced the United States and its European allies to reposition aircraft carriers and reassess naval priorities following unexpected setbacks, including the dismissal of the USS Truman’s commander.
He also pointed to the evolution of Yemen’s targeting tactics, which now combine ballistic and cruise missiles, drones, and multi-phase psychological operations. These include late-night strikes followed by morning attacks designed to disrupt enemy response cycles.
“These achievements challenge the presumed dominance of Israel and Western powers in the region. They expose the limits of U.S. maritime control and compel Western alliances to reevaluate their strategic posture.”
Shamsan concluded that Yemen’s growing tactical sophistication and resilience have had strategic, military, and political repercussions both regionally and internationally: “Yemen has demonstrated its capacity to confront even the most powerful naval forces, shifting the balance of power in favor of Palestinian resistance and defending regional rights.”
