Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): Messenger of a United Ummah and a Global Model of Coexistence, Justice, and Mercy
The Qur’anic Vision of a United Ummah
Referring to verse 92 of Surah Al-Anbiya, Amiri explained that the term “One Ummah” signifies a community united by faith, monotheism, and servitude to God. “Indeed, this Ummah of yours is one Ummah, and I am your Lord, so worship Me.” He noted that Islam transcends ethnic and tribal boundaries, placing faith in God and the mission of the Prophet (PBUH) at the heart of unity.
He cited Surah Al-A’raf: “Say, O mankind, I am the Messenger of Allah to all of you,” affirming the Prophet’s universal mission and his role as the messenger of a united Ummah.
Medina: A Practical Model of Unity
Amiri highlighted the Prophet’s efforts in Medina to build a society where migrants and helpers, Arabs and non-Arabs, rich and poor, lived together with equal rights. Through the Constitution of Medina, the Prophet laid the foundation for peaceful coexistence and unity, reconciling hostile tribes such as Aws and Khazraj.
He quoted the Prophet: “The Muslim is the brother of another Muslim; he does not oppress him, abandon him, or belittle him.” This spirit of brotherhood and equality became the cornerstone of the united Ummah in Islamic history.
Returning to the Qur’an and Sunnah
Amiri emphasized the importance of adhering to authentic Islamic sources. He quoted the Prophet: “I leave behind two things; you will never go astray as long as you hold onto them: the Book of Allah and my Sunnah.” He warned that distancing from these sources leads to division, weakness, and decline, and that returning to them is the key to reviving unity and honor in the Ummah.
Three Foundational Principles for Unity
To reestablish the One Ummah, Amiri proposed three core principles: Returning to the Qur’an and Sunnah as the foundation of thought and action, Reviving Prophetic ethics in social and political relations, Avoiding fanaticism, takfir, and division, and embracing faith-based brotherhood among all Muslims.
He added that the Prophet (PBUH) was a model of love, justice, and mercy. The Qur’an describes him as “a mercy to the worlds,” and he united hearts through noble character, saying: “The believer to another believer is like a building, each part supporting the other.”
A Mission for Today
In conclusion, Mamusta Amiri stressed that now more than ever, Muslims must revisit the Prophetic legacy and strive to realize the vision of a united Ummah. “If Muslims focus on their shared beliefs—faith, the Qur’an, the Qibla, and the Prophet—rather than their differences, they will embody the verse: ‘You are the best nation brought forth for mankind.’”
