Iranian commentator:

Trump's "Peace Council" is advancing doctrine of peace through force

The official start of the second phase of Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza, centered on the formation of a "Peace Council" with the acceptance of nearly 20 countries, the signing of its charter, and the appointment of a technocratic committee to temporarily administer the region, has brought about new developments in the ceasefire equations.

While reports indicate an agreement on the names of the members of the Gaza Management Committee, Trump, with the slogan "peace through strength" and emphasizing the complete disarmament of Hamas, is trying to consolidate his role as the head of this council to oversee the reconstruction and security of the region.

Hassan Shemshadi, Iranian expert on regional issues believes that what is being proposed today under the title of the second phase of the ceasefire and the formation of a peace council faces serious challenges and ambiguities at the regional and international levels.

Referring to the process of implementing the first phase of the ceasefire, Shemshadi said, "The first phase was carried out with the exchange of prisoners, the transfer of bodies, and the release of prisoners, but the Zionist regime has obstructed the entry into the second phase; including the fact that the crossings have not been fully opened and the aid that should have reached the Palestinians and refugees has not fully entered Gaza."

He added,” It has been announced that only about 40 percent of humanitarian needs have entered Gaza, and the Zionist regime has established numerous checkpoints at the Rafah crossing, which has made the process of transferring essential items difficult; therefore, the people of Gaza continue to live in difficult conditions.”

Referring to the composition of the countries present at Trump's Peace Council, this expert on regional issues stated: "More than 60 countries were invited to attend this council, but about 18 to 20 countries attended."

Trump has initiated the second phase of the ceasefire with the Peace Council agreement, which 18 countries signed in Trump’s presence. Not all invited countries welcomed the council, reflecting the divide among the invited countries; some, such as France and Norway, rejected the invitation outright, while others, such as Italy and Ireland, are still considering it.

This expert on regional issues emphasized,” Trump's view of international issues is based on the doctrine of "peace through strength" in the world; meaning “might is right."

Shemshadi continued, “Trump has repeatedly announced that he has ended eight international conflicts in one year, and is now trying to take the same approach to managing the Gaza issue, an issue that has raised serious concerns about the future role of the UN and the true nature of the council.”

Shemshadi emphasized that no Palestinian representative is present in this council, saying: "When Palestinians are deprived of the slightest role and opinion in this mechanism, on the other hand, the Zionist regime is present in this council alongside the United States, so it is natural to raise concerns that this plan, rather than seeking to provide peace for the people of Gaza, has an economic and guardianship view of the future of this region.

He added, "Some have even referred to this council as the "Gaza Occupation Council," not the Peace Council, because with Trump's "peace through strength" doctrine and the discussion of commercializing peace, which has been raised on the condition of paying one billion dollars by members, the suspicion is strengthened that the goal is the economic and political management of Gaza from the outside, without the Palestinians playing a role."

This expert on regional issues stated, "There is a concern that the Islamic members of the Council will become mere approvers of decisions dictated by Trump and the United States, and will have virtually no role in guiding the decision-making process."
Shemshadi concluded, "Given the past positions of some of these countries, it seems unlikely that they will be able to stand up to the American view in this council and present and implement the independent viewpoint of Islamic countries."
