More than 250 settlers broke into al-Aqsa Mosque through the Maghariba Gate and toured the courtyards under police protection, local sources said.

A number of settlers escorted by police officers also gathered in the eastern area of the Mosque and embarked on performing Talmudic prayers.

Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation police imposed movement and entry restrictions on Muslim worshipers at the Aqsa Mosque’s entrances and gates.

The Aqsa Mosque is exposed to frequent desecration by Jewish settlers and police forces.

According to an Ottoman-era agreement, while non-Muslims are allowed to visit al-Aqsa Mosque compound, they cannot worship or pray at the site.

Al-Aqsa Mosque is considered the third holiest site in Islam. Jews refer to the area as the Temple Mount, believing it to be the location of two ancient Jewish temples.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem, where Al-Aqsa is located, during the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. In 1980, Israel annexed the entire city, a move that has never been recognized by the international community.
