Sheikh Azmi Abdul Hamid, the president of MAPIM has expressed regret over the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza that has reached a breaking point and quoted the UN office for Humanitarian Affairs describing the relief operations in Gaza close to total collapse, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
He condemned the relentless Israeli air and ground strikes targeting tents of displaced people and also more than 50 days of total blockade of the besieged territory.
The prominent scholar slammed as “systematic and deliberate” Israel’s deprivation of the Gazans urging the Muslim world leaders to speak with one voice and demand an immediate lifting of the blockade on Gaza.
He said,” Declare a united Islamic emergency response, mobilizing aid, pressure, and support for Palestinians” and called for diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the genocide and uphold international humanitarian law.
The Malaysian scholar also called for an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to develop enforceable resolutions and action plans.
Sheikh Azmi Abdul Hamid also addressed the leaders of justice across the world to stand with the voiceless and oppressed in Gaza, push for an immediate ceasefire and unconditional humanitarian access and also condemn the use of starvation as a weapon of war.
MAPIM president stressed the role of other world bodies namely the UN Security Council and global powers to intervene for peace, not power politics.
He warned against the devastating condition of civilians in Gaza and said,” This is not a time for statements. This is a time for action.”
Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organization has issued several statements since the beginning of Israeli genocide in Gaza in October 2023 calling on the world to take action to end the ongoing genocidal war in Gaza.
The latest statement by MAPIM comes as the Israeli genocide in Gaza is raging on for 18 months with the Palestinian death toll from Israeli aggression surpasses 52,000 people, most of them women and children.
