Malaysian Islamic Council Slams UK Ban on "Palestine Action" as a “Historic Disgrace”

In a statement shared with Taghrib News Agency, the council emphasized that this move represents a dangerous precedent in criminalizing legitimate resistance and silencing dissent.
Malaysian Islamic Council Slams UK Ban on "Palestine Action" as a “Historic Disgrace”
The UK Home Office announced on June 23 that it would proscribe "Palestine Action" under anti-terrorism laws, making it a criminal offense to support or belong to the group. The decision followed a series of direct actions by the group targeting British arms manufacturers linked to Israel, including Elbit Systems, and a recent high-profile protest at an RAF base.

The Malaysian council’s statement recalled Britain’s colonial legacy in Palestine, citing the 1917 Balfour Declaration and its role in the 1948 Nakba, and accused the UK of continuing to arm Israel’s war machine while criminalizing those who oppose its actions.

“Palestine Action is a grassroots, nonviolent movement that has done what governments have failed to do — exposing complicity in genocide, disrupting weapons production, and standing in solidarity with Gaza under bombardment,” the statement read.

The council warned that banning such activism is a desperate attempt to rewrite history, shield war profiteers, and suppress global solidarity with Palestine. It called on the international community to resist this trend and defend the right to protest against injustice.
