Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Issues Statement on First Anniversary of Assassination of Ismail Haniyeh

According to Taghrib News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran honors the memory of this great martyr and long-time companion of Martyr General Qassem Soleimani. It extends its congratulations and condolences to the Supreme Leader, the resilient people of Palestine, the family of Martyr Haniyeh, the Hamas movement, all resistance groups in Palestine and the region, and all freedom-seekers around the world. The Ministry emphasizes that the path of Martyr Haniyeh and other martyrs of the resistance will continue with strength until the liberation of the oppressed people of Palestine from the yoke of occupation and the realization of their right to self-determination.

 The assassination of Martyr Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran—while he was an official guest attending the inauguration ceremony of President Pezeshkian—was a heinous crime and a blatant violation of international law, national sovereignty, and the territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, reaffirming the legitimacy of the Palestinian people's struggle for self-determination against occupation and apartheid imposed on their historic homeland, considers the targeted killings of Palestinian elites and leaders as part of the Zionist regime’s malicious colonial plan to eliminate the Palestinian people. Iran stresses the urgent need to end impunity for the perpetrators and to prosecute and punish them.
One year after the Zionist regime’s crime in assassinating Sheikh Ismail Haniyeh, the terrorist and criminal nature of this regime has become more evident than ever. The continued comprehensive military and political support by the United States and certain other Western countries has made them accomplices and partners in the crimes committed, rendering them internationally responsible for the genocide and war crimes perpetrated by the Zionist regime.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, while reaffirming its determination to exercise its inherent right of self-defense against the aggressions of the Zionist regime, reminds all governments of their responsibility to confront grave violations of humanitarian law and to stop the ongoing genocide. Iran calls for practical and effective measures to assist the oppressed people of Gaza and to prevent the continued mass killing of the Palestinian nation.
