U.S. Interference in Iran-Iraq Relations: A Deliberate Attempt to Sow Division Among Neighboring Nations

The statement came in response to remarks by the U.S. State Department spokesperson opposing the signing of a bilateral security memorandum of understanding between Iran and Iraq. The Iranian Embassy asserted that such comments reflect a persistent strategy by American policymakers to destabilize regional unity and undermine cooperation among neighboring countries.
“The illegal intervention by the United States in the bilateral affairs of Iran and Iraq is a clear indication of its ongoing efforts to sow discord among neighboring and Muslim nations,” the statement read.
The Embassy emphasized the shared commitment of Iran and Iraq to strengthening ties based on good neighborliness and mutual respect, calling this partnership a cornerstone for peace, stability, and security along their shared borders and across the region.
The statement continued: “The U.S. opposition to the Iran-Iraq cooperation agreement—aimed at enhancing security and combating terrorism—is an unacceptable intrusion into the affairs of two sovereign states. It clearly demonstrates Washington’s destabilizing approach toward regional affairs and its continued attempts to divide neighboring Muslim nations.”
Iran’s Embassy concluded by affirming that such interventionist positions violate the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, which uphold the right of sovereign states to cooperate freely and respectfully.
