In a recorded speech shown during the opening of the 39th International Islamic Unity Conference, Ayatollah Javadi Amoli said that unity requires more than words—it needs a deep understanding of Islam’s foundation.
He stressed that people must recognize their place in the religious structure to build meaningful unity.
He explained that unity only becomes possible when the core principles of religion are clearly presented and when individuals understand their own roles and positions within the faith.
Just as day and night complete each other’s work, nations can also support one another through their differences—without turning those differences into conflict, the senior cleric said.
He warned that if everyone thinks the same, progress will stop, and if people stand against each other, growth will not happen.
He encouraged embracing “sacred difference” and preventing it from becoming harmful opposition.
Ayatollah Javadi Amoli also said that the Qur’an has the power to bring people together, even though it’s not an easy task.
He mentioned a Friday prayer that says both Shia and Sunni Muslims follow the Prophet Muhammad. He believes that these differences will eventually be resolved through reason and evidence.
He added that past prejudices have already started to fade as knowledge and understanding grow.
