Iran’s Sunni and Shia communities showed unity during Israeli-imposed war: senior Islamic scholar

9 Sep 2025 - 12:48

Molavi Es’haq Madani, head of the Supreme Council of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, highlights how the recent war between Israel and Iran revealed the true intentions of Iran’s enemies and strengthened unity between Sunni and Shia Muslims.

During a meeting with Foreign Ministry officials and international guests to the 39th International Islamic Unity Conference, Madani said that claims suggesting Iran’s Sunni population would support foreign forces during a war were proven false.

Instead, Sunni leaders across the country condemned the attacks and stood firmly with the Islamic Republic.

He called this a major setback for those who hoped to divide Iran from within.

Madani also noted that the war led to increased support for Iran from Muslim scholars and communities around the world.

Even some figures who had previously held different views now openly support Iran. He said this year’s conference showed more warmth and solidarity toward Iran than ever before.

He praised the Leader’s quick response to the crisis, especially the fast appointment of new commanders to replace those killed in action.

This move, the cleric said, ensured the country’s defense, remained strong and showed the leader’s courage and wisdom.

Madani pointed out that past claims about Israel’s impenetrable borders were disproven and said, “This as the 12-day war showed Iran can cross those lines.”

He warned that if Israel provokes another war, Iran will respond even more forcefully.
