A senior Iranian cleric has hailed the Sacred Defense Week in the country stressing that defending the Islamic Republic will continue.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Hamid Shahriari, the Secretary General of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought made the remarks in a message on his social media X, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
The message by the prominent cleric was posted during the Sacred Defense Week which commemorates the sacrifices made by Iranians during the 8-year Iraq war.
 
He wrote,” The Sacred Defense Week is a time to mark the epic resistance, unity and gallantry of the Iranian nation against aggressors. Defense for the home country continues not only in the field but also in different domains of science, culture and diplomacy.”
 
September 22nd marks the day when Iraq, under the Baathist regime of former dictator Saddam Hussein, unleashed war against Iran. Iranians commemorate the sacrifices made by Iranians during eight years of Iraqi-imposed war.
