Velayati: No Foreign Power Has the Right to Interfere in Iraq’s Destiny

He emphasized Iraq’s historic and civilizational significance, noting that with over 5,000 years of history, Iraq is one of the founders of human civilization, citing the Sumerian civilization as one of the earliest manifestations of human advancement.
Velayati highlighted Iraq’s contribution to Islamic civilization, stating that for centuries, the country has been a major center of Islamic scholarship. He also praised the Iraqi people’s enduring devotion to the Ahl al-Bayt (the Prophet’s family), acknowledging their sacrifices throughout history.
He pointed to the presence of the holy shrines of the Imams in Iraq as a reflection of the deep faith and spiritual attachment of its people. He commended all Iraqi communities—Shi’a, Sunni, and Kurdish—for their collective efforts in preserving these sacred sites.
Velayati asserted that the recent elections demonstrate that the Iraqi people are the true heirs of a great civilization and deep-rooted faith, and that their peaceful and enthusiastic participation is a testament to their national maturity.
He expressed hope that this historic election would send a clear message to Iraq’s adversaries: “No foreign power can interfere in determining the fate of this great and important country.”
