Iran Warns of U.S. Military Escalation in the Caribbean
He emphasized that such actions threaten international peace and security and called for respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Venezuela.
Baghaei described threats of force against Venezuela’s legitimate and elected government as a blatant violation of international law and a serious breach of the United Nations Charter—particularly the principles of self-determination and the prohibition of force outlined in Article 2, Paragraph 4.
He referred to multiple reports from international bodies describing U.S. attacks on Venezuelan fishing vessels as extrajudicial and arbitrary killings. He stressed the need to halt the misuse of anti-narcotics operations as a pretext for violating Venezuela’s sovereignty.
Call for UN Action
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson also reminded the United Nations and its Secretary-General of their responsibility to prevent violations of international peace and security and to counter aggressive unilateralism on the global stage.
