Israel Has Stolen 17,000 Artifacts from Gaza’s Qasr al-Basha Museum

Dr. Hamouda al-Dahdah, head of restoration at Qasr al-Basha, emphasized the museum’s historical significance, stating: “The museum housed priceless artifacts from the Mamluk, Ottoman, Byzantine, Roman, and even prehistoric periods. But after the destruction and excavation of the rubble, only 20 pieces were recovered.”

Al-Dahdah held Israel and its allies fully responsible for the disappearance of the collection, asserting that the aim was not only looting but also the erasure of Palestinian cultural identity.
Meanwhile, UNESCO has reported that more than 114 archaeological sites in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed during the conflict. Palestinian authorities have also confirmed that at least 226 historical landmarks have been affected. These developments have reignited international concern over the protection of cultural heritage in war-torn regions.
