Malaysia Prints 20,000 Copies of the Qur’an in the Tamil Language

According to Taghrib News Agency(TNA), the center announced that an additional 20,000 endowed copies of the Qur’an have been prepared for distribution in Zanzibar, Tanzania. The initiative aims to support Islamic education and empower Muslim communities in the region, which face a shortage of high‑quality Qur’an copies.

The statement further noted that a total of 10,000 endowed Qur’ans have been allocated for disaster‑relief efforts in Malaysia, Aceh (Indonesia), and southern Thailand, replacing copies damaged during natural disasters.
In this context, Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Human Resources, Ahmad Maslan, stated:
“Through the One Million Qur’an Project, we want to ensure that all Muslims have access to a Qur’an they can understand.”
He added: “Printing 20,000 Qur’ans with Tamil translation is a strategic step to reach millions of Tamil speakers. The distribution of Qur’ans to Zanzibar and flood‑affected regions also reflects the solidarity of Malaysian Muslims with their fellow Muslims abroad.”
The One Million Qur’an Endowment Project, launched by Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, aims to distribute translated copies of the Qur’an in various languages across the world.
Tamil is one of the ancient languages of the Dravidian family, with a history spanning more than two millennia. Today, an estimated 70 to 80 million people speak Tamil worldwide. It is primarily used in India’s Tamil Nadu state and in Sri Lanka, and is also spoken in countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.
