Trump's failure to impose the expansion of the Abraham Accords under the guise of negotiations with Iran
The attempt by Donald Trump, the President of the United States, to impose the expansion of the Abraham Accords and link them to ongoing negotiations with Iran has failed.

According to the Taghrib News Agency, The Abraham Accords, which were hailed as one of the most important political achievements of the US and Israel, are now facing increasing challenges due to Israel's ongoing war against the Gaza Strip and the growing rejection of Israeli policies by Arab public opinion. According to the American newspaper The Hill, this makes talk of a new wave of normalization seem unlikely.
In this context, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, in contacts with leaders of Arab and Islamic countries, tried to encourage new countries to join these accords within a broader framework linked to US-Iran negotiations. However, these efforts have not made tangible progress, as they have been met with hesitation or outright rejection.
Pakistan's position was notably prominent: Khawaja Asif, the country's Defense Minister, emphasized that joining the Abraham Accords contradicts his country's foreign policy principles and denied any official intention to establish relations with Israel.
Observers believe that the attempt to link negotiations with Iran to the regional normalization process indicates the pressure Trump is facing from Israel and its allies in the United States, who seek to achieve political and strategic gains beyond Iran's nuclear issue.
Despite the proposal to expand the Abraham Accords as a means to form a regional axis against Iran, data shows that a number of Arab countries are currently not prioritizing normalization, especially given the ongoing war in Gaza and the lack of real progress towards the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Experts confirm that the accords, presented by the first Trump administration as a project to fundamentally transform the region, have failed to achieve their stated goals. Their results were limited to establishing formal relations between Israel and some Arab countries, without helping to end the conflicts or address the roots of the Palestinian issue.
Furthermore, the Gaza war, which began in October 2023, has been a major obstacle to the normalization process, as it brought the Palestinian issue back to the forefront of political and public attention and caused several countries to delay or halt any new steps to strengthen ties with Israel.
With the prospects for expanding the accords diminishing significantly, Trump later lowered his expectations and accepted the possibility that some countries might not join, after having considered their expansion as the cornerstone of his vision for reshaping the regional balance.
US sources say that the initial understandings being discussed with Iran focus on consolidating the ceasefire and opening the door for negotiations on Iran's nuclear program, without including any provisions related to the expansion of the Abraham Accords or imposing the normalization process on regional countries.
According to observers, these developments indicate the growing difficulties facing the normalization project promoted by Washington and Tel Aviv as an inevitable option for reshaping the Middle East, given the ongoing war in Palestine and the insistence of several Arab and Islamic countries on separating their regional interests from the normalization process with Israel.
