Groups of Bahraini Shia youths have held public ceremonies to mark martyrdom of the Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei despite what participants described as significant restrictions on Shia religious activities in the Persian Gulf kingdom.

The demonstrations of solidarity held against the backdrop of heightened tensions surrounding the treatment of Bahrain’s Shia community.
 
The developments come only days after Bahraini authorities initiated legal proceedings against several prominent Shia clerics.
 
The cases were referred to the country’s High Criminal Court, marking the latest chapter in a long-running dispute between the government and segments of the Shia religious establishment.
