Malaysian Islamic Organizations: Palestinian Defense Is Legitimate Jihad, Not Terrorism

The statement calls for sanctions, global accountability, and prosecution of Israeli officials for crimes against humanity.
Malaysian Islamic Organizations: Palestinian Defense Is Legitimate Jihad, Not Terrorism
The signatories include the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM), the World Mosque Union for the Defense of Al-Aqsa (MANAR), the Secretariat of the Regional Ulama Assembly of Asia (SHURA), the Malaysian Ulama Association (PUM), and the Global Coalition for Al-Quds and Palestine (Malaysia Chapter).
“With full awareness of our moral and faith-based responsibility, we—an alliance of Islamic organizations, scholarly institutions, and international solidarity networks—gather to commemorate the second anniversary of the genocide in Gaza, which has claimed tens of thousands of lives and devastated the foundations of existence in the Holy Land.”
The statement describes Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, launched on October 7, 2023, as a symbol of dignity and awakening for the Muslim Ummah after 75 years of occupation and denial of Palestinian rights:
“This was not merely a military event—it was a manifestation of global consciousness for justice, freedom, and human dignity.”
Key Points of the Statement:
1. Affirming the Rights of the Palestinian People
The coalition asserts that Palestinians have a legitimate, legal, and divine right to defend their land against Zionist occupation—a right recognized by Islamic law, international statutes, and universal human principles.
“Their struggle is not terrorism—it is a rightful act of resistance and jihad for dignity and freedom. The occupation, displacement, and brutal siege imposed by Israel constitute institutionalized terrorism and modern genocide.”
2. Condemning Genocide and Global Hypocrisy
The statement denounces the mass killings, torture, forced displacement, and destruction of Gaza, carried out with the backing of global powers.
“The complicity of major powers—through arms supplies, financial aid, and abuse of UN veto rights—makes them accomplices in crimes against humanity.”
3. Call to Action for the Ummah and the World
The coalition urges Muslims and principled people worldwide to:
  • End the war and siege on Gaza immediately
Open all humanitarian corridors and protect Palestinians under international law
Enforce full economic, cultural, and investment boycotts (BDS) against all entities supporting the Zionist regime
Build global solidarity through media, education, grassroots diplomacy, and scholarly networks
Hold Israeli war criminals accountable at the International Criminal Court
4. Unity and Restoration of Dignity
The statement emphasizes that the strength of the Ummah lies in unity and steadfastness:
“We call on all Islamic governments, institutions, and civil society movements to reject sectarian and political divisions and unite under the banner of Al-Quds.”
5. Commitment and Continuity
The coalition pledges to:
  • Continue defending and amplifying the true narrative of Palestine
Strengthen global solidarity networks among NGOs, scholars, academics, and civil society
Keep the Palestinian cause as a permanent agenda of the Islamic Ummah and global humanitarian movement
Sustain diplomatic, economic, and public pressure on Israel and its allies
The statement was signed by:
  • Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, President of MAPIM and the Global Coalition for Al-Quds and Palestine (Malaysia Chapter)
Datuk Seri Sheikh Ahmad Awang, President of MANAR
Datuk Wira Sheikh Abdul Ghani Shamsuddin, Head of SHURA
Datuk Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz, President of PUM
